Delhi, Agra and Jaipur form a rough triangle of around 700 km. Doing it by car means one driver, one vehicle for your luggage, and the freedom to stop at places trains skip entirely, like Fatehpur Sikri and the Abhaneri stepwell.

The best order
Most people start and finish in Delhi: Delhi → Agra → Jaipur → Delhi. The Yamuna Expressway makes Delhi to Agra quick, and the drive from Agra to Jaipur has the most interesting stops on the way.
Plan around Friday
The Taj Mahal is closed to visitors on Fridays. Arrange your days so you are in Agra on any other day.
Stops worth adding
- Mathura and Vrindavan between Delhi and Agra.
- Fatehpur Sikri, the abandoned Mughal capital, 40 km from Agra.
- Chand Baori at Abhaneri, one of India's deepest stepwells, a short detour before Jaipur.
Which car to choose
For two people a sedan is enough. For a family of four with suitcases, an SUV or Innova Crysta gives you space on the longer days. Groups of eight or more should look at a Tempo Traveller.
